Criteo provides an advanced retargeting service used by retailers to serve personalized online display advertisements to consumers who have previously visited the advertiser’s website.
The integrated solution of Criteo and Optimove makes it easy to plan and execute highly effective retargeting campaigns. Optimove populates Criteo Audience Lists on a daily basis, based on advanced customer segmentation and predictive analytics, allowing marketers to automate highly personalized retargeting campaigns, at scale.
Setting Up the Integration
In order to use Optimove to execute campaigns via your Criteo account, you'll need to perform the following steps:
1. Create a new API User in your Criteo Management Center Platform
- Click Setup > Users.
- Click Create API User.
- Enter a contact email address and select Business Manager role.
- Click Add User.
- You will receive a confirmation message showing your Client ID and Client Secret.
2. Provide your Criteo API Credentials to your Customer Success Manager
Provide the Criteo Client ID and Client Secret you received in the previous step to your Customer Success Manager.
3. Create Audience Lists in Criteo
As Criteo does not support using lists created in their platform, ask your CSM for assistance to create lists via the Optimove platform.
Optimove will automatically retrieve the names of your preconfigured Audience Lists, and make them available for selection in the Optimove user interface. Note that Audience Lists become active approximately 24 hours after they are created.
If you require the creation of additional audience lists at a later time, contact your Customer Success Manager.
4. Ensure that Customer Email Addresses are Included in Your Optimove Daily Data Update
If customer email addresses are not already included in the daily data provided by your company to Optimove, they must be added to the process. This is because Criteo uses email addresses to identify customers.
If necessary, adding this data will require collaboration between your company’s IT staff and your Customer Success Manager.
Executing Criteo Campaigns Using Optimove
Once the above setup steps have been completed, you can run your first Criteo retargeting campaign using Optimove, as follows.
1. Schedule a Criteo Campaign in Optimove
When scheduling a campaign in Optimove, select the Criteo execution channel and then select the desired Criteo Audience from the drop-down list that appears.
2. Set Up the Campaign in Criteo
After the campaign is scheduled within Optimove, use the Criteo Management Center platform to create the desired campaign for the Audience List populated by Optimove.
3. Optimove Automatically Populates Criteo Audience Lists
On a daily basis, Optimove automatically populates all selected Audience Lists with the customer email addresses included in each campaign’s selected target group. When the campaign’s measurement period concludes, Optimove automatically removes all email addresses from the Criteo Audience List.
Note that Optimove will only populate the Audience List with customers that have a valid email address. Thus, a target group may contain 1,000 customers, but only 700 may be added to the Audience List for that target group’s campaign if the rest do not have valid email addresses in the Optimove database.
